Monroe Lake Osprey Watch 05-28-2025
Osprey Watch at the Cell Tower. These are quick bad quallity snapshots to document the activities. They are not intended to showcase the birds.
Activities observed
-
2:21pm - Two vultures on cellphone tower near post office.
-
2:49pm - Osprey perched on small pole visible from church.
-
2:58pm - Arrival.
-
2:58pm - Osprey 1 carrying large stick to cell tower; circled once. On the second circle, dropped the (large) stick. Then flew into the nest.
-
3:11pm - No visible activity in the nest.
-
3:27pm - Osprey 2 flies to nest with fish; lands directly in nest. Both ospreys are in the nest, repositioning.
-
3:29-3:50pm - Osprey 2 moves to small pole visible from church.
-
3:50pm - Flies to a different location on the nest.
-
3:51pm - Osprey 2 is suspiciously high in the nest without using wings (possible mating attempt?).
-
3:52pm - Osprey 2 back onto nest.
-
3:54pm - Osprey 2 flies with a quarter of the fish to box close to the street. No longer clearly visible. Starts eating.
-
3:58pm - Ending observation at church.
-
3:59pm - While leaving, see three vultures across the street circling high, but not close enough to the nest.
-
4:01pm - Arriving at gas station.
-
4:01pm - Observing Osprey 2 from gas station.
-
4:01pm - Observing Osprey 2 leaving tower, circling it.
-
4:02pm - Observing Osprey 1 leaving tower and joining Osprey 2 in circling.
-
4:02pm - Observing third bird in cellphone tower vicinity.
-
4:03pm - One of the ospreys returned to cellphone tower box or pole visible from church (I have a photo of the landing and was able to deduce this). The other osprey was still circling the tower, but I lost track of it—unsure whether it landed in the nest or flew off.
